PATRICK HAHN DEBUTS WITH Deutsches Symphonie Orchester BERLIN
14/4/2023
Patrick Hahn makes his debut with Deutsches Symphonie Orchester Berlin at the Berlin Philharmonie on 15 April.
With Sol Gabetta on the cello, the programme starts with Crumb’s God-music for cello and crystal glasses from Black Angels and continues into Britten’s Sinfonia da Requiem. The first half ends with Elgar’s Cello Concerto.
Charles Ives’ rarely played Symphony No.2 is a favourite of Patrick Hahn’s. It was almost 50 years between the completion and the premiere of Charles Ives’ Second Symphony. Written in the late romantic style but remarkable for its innovative use of folklore material, the premiere of this symphony was under the direction of Leonard Bernstein in 1951.
