Jess Gillam appears in a world premiere of Anna Clyne’s new concerto Glasslands with Detroit Symphony Orchestra on 18 February in an eclectic programme of contrasting styles. Clyne, described as ​“immediate, mystical and vibrant” by the New York Times, has written a new concerto especially for Jess’ unique style, which ​“conjures an imaginary world of three realms governed by the banshee”. The programme also consists of Tchaikovsky’s popular Romeo and Juliet Fantasy Overture and Shostakovich’s Symphony No.5, which focusses on sorrow and rebirth.
