22 years after its Danish world premiere, Poul Ruders’ opera The Handmaid’s Tale returns to the Danish National Theatre in a new production directed by John Fulljames. Based on Margaret Atwood’s award-winning dystopian thriller, Paul Bentley’s libretto follows the character Offred – in which Hanna Hipp makes her debut – as she battles with a dangerous totalitarian regime. Jessica Cottis conducts, with performances opening on 29 October.
