We have not one, but four artists shortlisted in this year’s International Opera Awards 2022.
Russell Thomas is nominated in the MALE SINGER category in a season which sees him returning to the world’s greatest lyric stages in some of his favourite roles including The Met for Don Carlos, Lyric Opera of Chicago for Ernani, Opera National de Paris for La forza del destino and to the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden for Turandot.
Golda Schultz and Pene Pati have both been nominated in the READERS’ AWARD category. Golda Schultz debuts this season at both Opera National de Paris and Lyric Opera of Chicago as Micaëla in Carmen and returns to the Metropolitan Opera as Adina in L’elisir d’amore. This summer she is Madame Lidoine in Barrie Kosky’s anticipated new production of Dialogues des Carmélites at Glyndebourne Festival.
Pene Pati’s profiles continues to rise with performances this season in La damnation de Faust at Opéra Monte-Carlo, Mozart’s Mitridate, re di Ponto at Staatsoper Berlin, his debut at the Gran teatre del Liceu in Massenet’s Manon and he closes the season with his first Rodolfo in Puccini’s La bohème at Théâtre des Champs-Elysées.
Nil Venditti has also been shortlisted for the RISING STAR category. Nil Venditti returned to Irish National Opera early this year for Michael Gieleta’s production of Tosca, with soprano Sinéad Campbell Wallace in the title role.
The winners will be announced at the International Opera Awards Ceremony at the Teatro Real in Madrid on Monday 28 November 2022.
