The Kölner Kammerorchester is delighted to announce a five-year extension of its contract with Christoph Poppen as Principal Conductor. This highly fruitful artistic partnership began 10 years ago, and the new extension takes the orchestra and conductor together through to 2027.
Founded in 1923, Kölner Kammerorchester is the oldest chamber orchestra in Germany and the centenary celebrations for the anniversary year will see the orchestra with specially-curated programmes featuring extraordinary soloists (including Anne-Sophie Mutter).
“Christoph Poppen’s charisma, his profound skills as a conductor and his human integrity have opened up unimagined new artistic heights for the Kölner Kammerorchester in the last ten years. That’s why we are all looking forward — especially so in the 100th anniversary of the Kölner Kammerorchester’s existence — to the continuation of this success story in the next five years. And beyond!” — Professor Franz Xaver Ohnesorg, Founding Director of the Kölner Philharmonie and Chairman of the Kölner Kammerorchester
