Víkingur Ólafsson’s much-anticipated album, Afar, was finally released on 7 October. The highly personal double album released on Deutsche Grammophon reflects Ólafsson’s musical DNA, from childhood memories growing up in Iceland to his international career and contemporary inspirations.

It’s a busy month of new release for Pekka Kuusisto, including his first album release as conductor (Beethoven and Stravinsky Violin Concertos) with Vilde Frang and Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen on Warner Classics, plus the world premiere recording of Thomas Adès’ Märchentänze, for violin and orchestra with Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra and Nicholas Collon on Ondine.

Exciting news for Camerata RCO this month who released on Alpha Classics the live recording of Reinbert de Leeuw’s arrangement of Berg’s Sieben Frühe Lieder with Barbara Hannigan and EQ Young Artist Raoul Steffani. The album was conducted by EQ Young Artist Rolf Verbeek.
After the success of the first two volumes of the complete Sibelius symphonies, Santtu-Matias Rouvali and the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra introduce us to the ‘green’ side of Sibelius in their new album with Alpha Classics.
Les Argonautes, which features Julie Roset, released their recording of Purcell ‘s Dido & Aeneas with the label Aparté this month.
