Jörg Widmann as conductor, soloist and composer in Brazil and Taiwan

This month Jörg Widmann travels to Brazil as Visiting Composer to Orquestra Sinfônica do Estado de São Paulo for five performances and a clarinet masterclass. Ever the multi-disciplinary creative – clarinettist, conductor and pedagogue – his orchestral concerts on 18, 19 and 20 August will feature Weber’s Concertino for Clarinet and Orchestra, Widmann’s own Violin Concerto No.2 with his sister Carolin Widmann as the violin soloist and Mendelssohn’s Symphony No.1. Additionally, he takes the stage for Mozart’s Clarinet Quintet with members of the OSESP for chamber music concerts on 14 and 15 August (Widmann’s own String Quartet No.3, Jagdquartett will also be on the programme along with Mozart’s String Quartet No.17, The Hunt).
Following his São Paulo sojourn, he will travel to Taiwan for three performances, firstly with National Symphony Orchestra Taiwan for an orchestral concert at the National Kaohsiung Center for the Arts on 2 September. This programme features his Violin Concerto No.2 (Carolin Widman, soloist), Mendelssohn’s Hebrides Overture and Schumann’s Symphony No.2. After this, he performs in two chamber music concerts which include his String Quartet No.3, Jagdquartett (featuring players of the NSO Taiwan), Études, I‑III (Carolin Widman, violin) and Bartók’s Contrasts for Violin, Clarinet and Piano with Carolin Widman on violin and Pei-Yao Wang on piano on 3 September at National Kaohsiung Center for the Arts Recital Hall, and again on 4 September at Yunling Ensemble Hall.
