Spell Book by Freya Waley-Cohen features at Longborough Festival Opera
18/7/2022
Freya Waley-Cohen’s contemporary dramatic song cycle, Spell Book, will be performed at Longborough Festival Opera in its first complete staging from 28 July to 2 August, alongside Yshani Perinpanayagam’s new arrangement of Francesca Caccinni’s La Liberazione di Ruggiero. It is described as “a double bill exploring love, freedom and magic”.
Spell Book uses text from Rebecca Tamás’ powerful collection of poems, WITCH, which also inspired Waley-Cohen’s opera of the same name.
The double bill explores love, freedom and magic, and features a creative team including Yshani Perinpanayagam (conductor) and Jenny Ogilvie (director). It will be performed by CHROMA Ensemble and Longborough’s Emerging Artists ensemble, a programme that gives singers a vital opportunity at the beginning of their careers.
