The Opera Award is bestowed upon Phelim McDermott’s awe-inspiring production of Philip Glass’ Akhnaten, featuring countertenor Anthony Roth Costanzo in his “unforgettable”, “gleaming” portrayal of the title role, and performed at the Metropolitan Opera under Karen Kamensek.

Violinist Patricia Kopatchinskaja and cellist Sol Gabetta have won the BBC Magazine award in the Concerto category for their recording with Camerata Bern, which includes a new concerto by Francisco Coll called Plaisirs illumines for the label Alpha.
