Songs written by women, about women: Golda Schultz’s debut CD ‘This Be Her Verse’ stands out for its illumination of female composers, highlighting their important contribution to the song repertoire. Released on Alpha Classics, “Her new album confirms her versatility and musical intelligence”, writes The Guardian, in which Schultz, alongside collaborative pianist Jonathan Ware, combine romantic and contemporary styles in a showcase of the female experience through time.
The programme opens with works of Clara Schumann and Emilie Mayer, leading through Rebecca Clarke’s take on classic texts of William Blake, a devotional selection from Nadia Boulanger, and closing with the titled new commission ‘This Be Her Verse’ from composer Kathleen Tagg and poet-librettist Lila Palmer.
