HarrisonParrott at 2021 Verbier Festival

On 17 July, Swiss pianist Francesco Piemontesi makes his first return to the Verbier Festival since 2017 for a solo recital at Église de Verbier. On the programme are Schubert’s Piano Sonata No 19 in C and Liszt’s monumental Piano Sonata in B minor of 1853.
Nikolai Lugansky is performing four recitals at this year’s festival including a solo recital featuring Beethoven and Rachmaninov, a chamber music performance of Mendelssohn’s and Schumann’s Piano Trios together with Alexander Sitkovetsky, Lawrence Power and Kian Soltani, another performance of the Piano Trios as well as Schostakovitch’s Piano Quintet with Marc Bouchkov, Alexander Sitkovetsky, Lawrence Power and Misha Maisky and lastly a performance of Schubert’s Winterreise with the singer Matthias Goerne.
Behzod Abduraimov returns for three performances; a solo recital on 20 July featuring Schumann’s Kreisleriana; followed by Rachmaninov’s Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini on 21 July with the Junior Festival Orchestra under James Gaffigan. Behzod and Daniel Lozakovich will collaborate in recital presenting a programme of Schubert and Beethoven on 26 July. All performances are broadcast live on Medici TV.
Klaus Mäkelä performs at the Festival as conductor and chamber musician. On 23 July, he joins Janine Jansen, Antoine Tamestit, and Antonio Pappano, amongst others, to perform Schumann’s Piano Quartet in E‑flat major for a ‘Rencontre Inédite’ — a trademark of the Verbier Festival. Klaus Mäkelä then conducts the Verbier Festival Chamber Orchestra on 27 July for two concerts in one evening: Brahms Violin Concerto with Daniel Lozakovich and Schumann Symphony No. 2 followed by Schuman Cello Concerto with Mischa Maisky.
Alban Gerhardt is part of this year’s edition giving numerous master classes for the academy open to the public at different fabulous locations of the festival. He also joins forces with Augustin Hadelich, Antoine Tamestit and Denis Matsuev perfoming Schnittke’s String Trio and Strauss’ Piano Quartet in C Minor Op 13 at Eglise de Verbier.
Jean-Efflam Bavouzet will be present again at this year’s Verbier Festival giving a number of masterclasses.
