Klaus Mäkelä season 2021/22 Wiener Konzerthaus “Portrait Artist”
27/5/2021
Klaus Mäkelä will feature at the Wiener Konzerthaus as a Portrait Artist throughout season 2021/22.
The prestigious series opens with a chamber music concert on 22 September and a programme of Dvořák and Schumann. Klaus Mäkelä plays cello, joined by musical friends — Julian Rachlin, Boris Brovtsyn, Sarah McElravy and Javier Perianes.
He returns to conduct two concerts on 3 and 4 December with the Wiener Symphoniker and soloist Sol Gabetta in a programme of Webern, Bloch and Bartók.
The series concludes in May 2022 when Klaus Mäkelä brings the Oslo Philharmonic to Vienna performing the complete Sibelius Symphony cycle over a three-day residency. Featured composer of Mäkelä’s first season as Chief Conductor in Oslo, Sibelius’ music is close to both his and the orchestra’s heart. The complete cycle in Vienna as a part of their first international tour together is a major highlight of Makela’s second season as Chief Conductor and Artistic Advisor.
