Having recently taken up his position as Erster Kapellmeister at Staatstheater Hannover, opera titles James Hendry conducts between now and December in the Lower Saxon capital include Don Giovanni, Carmen and a new production of Sweeney Todd. He will also lead a new production of Don Pasquale for Oper Frankfurt, which has its premiere on 6 November. Other recent guest performances include Lucia di Lammermoor for English National Opera, The Marriage of Figaro for Opera North, and concert performances with the Southbank Sinfonia, Orchestra of Opera North and the Hull Philharmonic Orchestra. 

He was a member of the prestigious Jette Parker Young Artists Programme at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden which he joined from the 2016/17 season as conductor and répétiteur, working closely with Sir Antonio Pappano. Previous to that, his early music studies were through the Yorkshire Young Musicians programme and at the Royal Northern College of Music, where he is now an Honorary Associate Artist.
