Víkingur Ólafsson & Daniel Bjarnason live in concert with Iceland Symphony Orchestra at Harpa Concert Hall
3/6/2020
Daníel Bjarnason and Víkingur Ólafsson perform with the Iceland Symphony Orchestra, which has returned to making music in the Harpa Concert Hall. The concert with live audience on 4 June will be broadcast live on Icelandic television (RÚV) as well as streamed on the Orchestra’s website (sinfonia.is). This follows the relaxation of Iceland’s assembly ban; tickets are sold with increased space between guests in recognition of the COVID-19 guidelines.
Víkingur Ólafsson will perform Mozart’s Piano Concerto No.23 in A major. In addition, he will also perform his own transcription of Rameau’s The Arts and the Hours (from Les Boréades), from his most recent album Debussy Rameau. The concert opens with the Allegretto from Beethoven’s Symphony No.7, one of the composer’s most popular creations.
Both artists have a longstanding association with the Orchestra, and recently joined the Orchestra on the successful tour of Germany and Austria, which included concerts in Salzburg, Berlin, and Munich. Daníel Bjarnason is the Iceland Symphony Orchestra’s Principal Guest Conductor, having previously served as its Composer-in-Residence.
