On 28 February, Víkingur Ólafsson joins John Adams and Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France for the French premiere of Adams’ latest piano concerto; Must The Devil Have All the Good Tunes? (2018). Must The Devil Have All the Good Tunes? is Adams’ third piano concerto and was commissioned by the Los Angeles Philharmonic for their centennial season celebration. The concert, which takes place at 20:00 at the Auditorium of Maison de la Radio, also features works by Stravinsky and Debussy. The concert also sees Ólafsson perform a selection of pieces from his Phillip Glass – Piano Works album.
The following week, Adams and Ólafsson journey to Amsterdam to perform the piece with the Netherlands Radio Philharmonic Orchestra. This will be a Matinée performance on 7 March at the Concertgebouw. This time the concert will have an “all-Adams” programme, featuring the Dutch premiere of both Must The Devil Have All the Good Tunes? and I Still Dance. The performance will be broadcast live by the Dutch radio channel NPO Radio 4.
