18/12/2019
Daníel Bjarnason and Pekka Kuusisto join the Iceland Symphony Orchestra to record Bjarnason’s Violin Concerto at Harpa Hall in Reykjavik as part of a three-album project for Sono Luminus focussing on the music of Icelandic composers.
The concerto, commissioned by the Iceland Symphony Orchestra and Los Angeles Philharmonic, was premiered in 2017 at the Hollywood Bowl with the Los Angeles Philharmonic and Gustavo Dudamel, and became an instant success with audiences and orchestras alike. Over the last two years, Kuusisto has performed the concerto with the Philharmonia Orchestra, Orchestre de Paris, New York Philharmonic, Detroit Symphony, and Finnish Radio Symphony orchestras. This season Kuusisto takes the concerto to the Gothenburg Symphony, Swedish Radio Symphony orchestras Ottawa’s National Arts Center Orchestra, MDR Sinfonieorchester and NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchester.
The album will be released in 2020 and follows the first and second instalments of the project, Recurrencereleased in 2017, and Concurrence released in 2019.
