Osmo Vänskä and the Minnesota Orchestra release the fourth instalment of their Mahler series focussing on the composer’s complete Symphony Cycle for Swedish label BIS Records. Following the releases of Symphonies Nos. 5, 6 & 2, the first of which receiving a Grammy nomination for Best Orchestral Performance, the new disc brings us the First Symphony. Recorded at Minneapolis’ Orchestra Hall, it brings the projects to its near midway point. Vänskä and the Orchestra continue to record the remaining symphonies for future releases, and are aiming to complete the series in time with the conclusion of Vänskä’s tenure as its Music Director in 2022.
