Pierre-Laurent Aimard makes Caramoor International Music Festival debut
5/7/2019
Pierre-Laurent Aimard makes his Caramoor International Music Festival debut in a three-part rendition of Messiaen’s Catalogue d’oiseaux on 13 and 14 July, which will also be his first performance of the piece in the U.S. in its entirety. This summer, he also performs Messiaen’s birdsong-inspired magnum opus as part of the festival Nits de Clàssica Girona (9 July), Ravello Festival (17 August), Berliner Festspiele (30 August), Settimane Musicali di Ascona (8 Sept), and Ultima Oslo Contemporary Music Festival, Oslo (15 September).
Aimard, who studied with Messiaen and his wife, Yvonne Loriod (for whom the cycle was composed), and is one of the most passionate interpreters of the composer’s work, recorded Catalogue d’oiseaux last season to inaugurate his exclusive new collaboration with Pentatone.
