Alban Gerhardt and Steven Osborne to Perform Recitals in the UK

Alban Gerhardt is setting off on a short UK tour with pianist Steven Osborne, performing a series of recitals in Bournemouth (St Giles), Ilkley (Ilkley Concert Club), Bristol (St George’s Bristol) and London (Wigmore Hall). The programme consists of the German Romantic first half with works by Robert Schumann and Johannes Brahms, and gypsy-themed Spanish and French second half with works by Manuel de Falla, Claude Debussy, and Maurice Ravel.

The duo has a long-standing collaboration, returning to Wigmore Hall, where their previous performance was praised by The Guardian:

“Debussy’s Cello Sonata, which opened their recital, suits their approach perfectly. With Gerhardt delivering the whole programme from memory, every twist and turn in the music, every change of mood and fleck of colour, seemed almost improvised; only Osborne’s crystalline precision kept it tethered to the ground.”

Alban returns to the UK shortly to appear in Liverpool with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra under direction of Vasily Petrenko, performing Prokofiev’s Sinfonia Concertante for Cello and Orchestra in the ​“Russian Passion” concert on 19 May.
