New production of Schumann’s Szenen aus Goethes Faust opens in Hamburg

Achim Freyer’s new production of Robert Schumann’s Szenen aus Goethes Faust opens at the Hamburg Staatsoper on 28th October. Generalmusikdirektor, Kent Nagano will conduct the Philharmonisches Staatsorchester with leading soloists, including Christian Gerhaher singing the title role. The production will run until 17th Nov 2018.
The house will also stage a revival of Wagner’s Ring Cycle with direction by Claus Gruth and set design from Christian Schmidt. Ten years after its premiere, Das Rheingold will return to begin another sequence of the cycle with Nagano conducting performances on 30th October and 4th Nov. Die Walküre then follows with performances on 11th and 16th Nov, Siegfried on 18th and 23rd Nov and Götterdämmerung on 25th Nov and 2nd Dec.
