Achim Freyer’s new production of Robert Schumann’s Szenen aus Goethes Faust opens at the Hamburg Staatsoper on 28^th October. Generalmusikdirektor, Kent Nagano will conduct the Philharmonisches Staatsorchester with leading soloists, including Christian Gerhaher singing the title role. The production will run until 17^th Nov 2018. 

The house will also stage a revival of Wagner’s Ring Cycle with direction by Claus Gruth and set design from Christian Schmidt. Ten years after its premiere, Das Rheingold will return to begin another sequence of the cycle with Nagano conducting performances on 30^th October and 4^th Nov. Die Walküre then follows with performances on 11^th and 16^th Nov, Siegfried on 18^th and 23^rd Nov and Götterdämmerung on 25^th Nov and 2^nd Dec.
