Ollie Howell: Outreach and Education
16/3/2018
As part of his commitment to arts education and outreach work, on 19 March Ollie Howell is taking part in the ‘Give a Gig’ campaign by Youth Music to have 100 gigs in 1 week to raise money for their work. Youth Music works with disadvantaged young people facing disability, poverty, mental health issues, refugee status and being brought up in care. It invests in around 350 national projects every year, giving around 75,000 children and young people the opportunity to make music in their local community. Ollie became a Friend of Youth Music in 2017 and said: ‘The impact music can have on someone, and particularly on young people, is simply unparalleled, and sadly not all children have the much-needed access to it growing up.’
Later this season, as part of his residency with London Chamber Orchestra, Ollie Howell will debut a new original composition commissioned for London Chamber Orchestra and 150 members from ‘Music Junction’, their youth initiative. This project aims to engage participants of all musical abilities through workshops culminating in a showcase performance on 18 May at Cadogan Hall.
