Claudia Boyle and Božidar Smiljanić in ENO’s new La traviata
9/3/2018
This week, Claudia Boyle returns to English National Opera as Violetta in Daniel Kramer’s new production of La traviata, alongside Harewood Artist Božidar Smiljanić, who makes his mainstage debut as the Marquis. Conducted by Leo McFall, performances run from 16 March to 13 April.
A favourite of London audiences, Claudia Boyle made her debut at ENO as Mabel in Gilbert & Sullivan’s much-loved The Pirates of Penzance, before returning as Leïla (The Pearl Fishers), and will join the cast of Iain Bell’s new commission Jack the Ripperthere next season. Elsewhere, she makes her debut at the 2018 Salzburger Festspiele as Autonoe (Die Bassariden) under Kent Nagano and debuts at Den Norske Opera next season as Adina (L’elisir d’amore).
British bass-baritone Božidar Smiljanić joins the ensemble of Oper Frankfurt next season with roles in Xerxes (alongside Lawrence Zazzo as Arsamene) and a new production of Rodelinda (with Andreas Scholl as Bertarido). He also returns to ENO as Schaunard (La bohème) and makes his debut at Bregenzer Festspiele this summer as Bartolo (Il barbiere di Siviglia).
