Esther Yoo returns to the National Orchestra of Belgium for the first time since her performance with the Orchestra 5 years ago. For her return concerts she performs Sibelius’ Violin Concerto with Hugh Wolff at the Palais des Beaux Arts (19 and 21 Jan). 

The concert on 19 January will be recorded for delayed broadcast on Belgium radio stations VRT and Musiq3. 

Of her 2016 recording of the Sibelius Concerto (with Vladimir Ashkenazy and Philharmonia Orchestra for Deutsche Grammophon), Classical Source commented: 

“Yoo commands a rich tone that can be pared to something silver-fine and her dynamic range is wide while her technique is excellent and music-serving. … It’s a smouldering account, biding its time to full emotional release, first in the unstintingly sympathetic orchestra and then in a full-on cadenza, Yoo unfazed by its technical hurdles.”
