Vladimir Ashkenazy a month of returns and celebrations
24/11/2017
Vladimir Ashkenazy rounds off the first half of the 2017/18 season with a delightful musical reunion with The Cleveland Orchestra, where he was formerly Principal Guest Conductor, for three performances of Elgar and Beethoven at Severance Hall.
This was followed by his return to the Sydney Symphony Orchestra for an extensive Shostakovich Tribute where he presented some of Shostakovich’s greatest creations including Shostakovich’s epic Symphony No.5, the powerful Symphony No.8, Passacaglia from Shostakovich’s opera Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk District, Violin Concerto No.1 and Cello Concerto No.1.
Ashkenazy then made his way to Asia, conducting the Orchestra da Camera di Mantova at the Musicus Fest for their fifth anniversary celebrations in 2017, joined by the festival’s Artistic Director Trey Lee and Dimitri Ashkenazy.
