11/8/2017
Klaus Mäkelä makes his German debut with the MDR Leipzig Radio Symphony Orchestra at MDR Musiksommer (18 August, Greiz Vogtlandhalle). Mäkelä conducts Alina Pogostkina in Brahms’ Violin Concerto, along with Sibelius’ Symphony No.5 and Lemminkäinen’s Return from the Lemminkäinen Suite. This marks the final concert in Mäkelä’s 2016/17 season.
2017/18 features several key first appearances for Mäkelä. He will appear with orchestras across the world including, among others, Minnesota Orchestra, NAC Orchestra, Ottawa, Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra, NDR Radiophilharmonie, Swedish Radio Symphony and Royal Stockholm Philharmonic orchestras, Orchestre National du Capitole de Toulouse, and Sinfónica de Galicia.
It is Pogostkina’s third performance at MDR Musiksommer this year. Previously, she has teamed up with Risto Joost for the opening concert with MDR Sinfonieorchester in Erfurt playing Vasks’ Distant Light (24 June), and shortly afterwards with Tallinn Chamber Orchestra to perform Pärt’s Tabula Rasa and Bach’s Concerto for Violin in E major in Bautzen (7 July).
