Anne Sofie von Otter and Audrey Luna create the roles of Leonora and Leticia, respectively, in the world premiere of Thomas Adès’ The Exterminating Angel at the Salzburger Festspiele. The composer conducts Tom Cairns’ production from 28 July.
A familiar face in Salzburg, Anne Sofie von Otter’s performance as Cornelia alongside Cecilia Bartoli’s Cleopatra and Andreas Scholl’s Cesare in Moshe Leiser and Patrice Caurier’s production of Giulio Cesare has just been released by Decca on DVD. This season, Anne Sofie appears as Countess Geschwitz in Berg’s Lulu under Kent Nagano in Christoph Marthaler’s new production for Staatsoper Hamburg, returns to the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden in The Exterminating Angel, and embarks on a European and US tour with string quartet, Brooklyn Rider, launching their new album, ‘So Many Things’.
No stranger to Adès’ music, Audrey Luna sang the role of Ariel in The Tempest for her Wiener Staatsoper debut and at The Metropolitan Opera, and features on the Grammy-award winning DVD of the title. Audrey Luna also debuts at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden in The Exterminating Angel this season as well as joining Sir Simon Rattle with both the London Symphony Orchestra and the Berliner Philharmoniker for Ligeti’s Le Grand Macabre.
