This week Camilla Tilling and Lilli Paasikivi perform Schoenberg’s Gurrelieder at the Baltic Sea Festival. They sing the roles of Tove and Waldtaube respectively on 30 August with the combined forces of the Swedish Radio Symphony and Royal Stockholm Philharmonic orchestras conducted by Esa-Pekka Salonen.

Giving her first performance of this work, Swedish soprano Camilla Tilling is one of today’s leading concert performers and regularly collaborates with the world’s greatest orchestras and conductors. Highlights from her busy season ahead include Brahms’ Ein deutsches Requiem with the New York Philharmonic under Christoph von Dohnányi, Berg’s Sieben frühe Lieder with the London Symphony Orchestra under François-Xavier Roth, Bach’s B minor Mass with Wiener Symphoniker under Philippe Jordan, and a reunion with Salonen for Dutilleux’s Correspondances with the Los Angeles Philharmonic.

Having previously performed Gurrelieder with the Finnish Radio Symphony and Los Angeles Philharmonic orchestras, this season mezzo-soprano Lilli Paasikivi champions composers of her native Finland with performances of Sibelius’ Kullervo and The Tempest, as well as a new commission by Olli Kortekangas, all conducted by Osmo Vänskä. Elsewhere she sings Mahler’s Das Lied von der Erde with Ensemble Intercontemporain and his Symphony No.2 with the NHK Symphony Orchestra under Paavo Järvi.
