Music Director Han-Na Chang conducts the Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra in their debut performance at the BBC Proms on 7 September.
In addition to Rachmaninov’s Piano Concerto No.2 (featuring Russian soloist Denis Matsuev) and Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No.5, they bring a Middle-Eastern element to the programme with Seemorgh (The Sunrise)by Persian composer Behzad Ranjbaran’s.
Han-Na Chang joined the orchestra as their Musical Director at the beginning of the 2013/14 season and is also Principal Guest conductor at the Trondheim Symfoniorkester. Having made a full transition from cellist to conductor, she is now highly sought after as a guest conductor. Her recent and future engagements include Staatskapelle Dresden, WDR Sinfonieorchester Köln, the Philharmonia Orchestra and Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra as well as the Royal Stockholm and Royal Liverpool Philharmonic orchestras.
Her next guest conducting appearance will be with the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra in October.
