Susanna Mälkki appointed Chief Conductor of the Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra

The Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra have appointed Susanna Mälkki as their next Chief Conductor. The three-year term begins in autumn 2016, and will include 8 – 10 concerts per year in addition to tours and recordings with the orchestra.
The 2014/15 season sees Mälkki debut with The Philadelphia and Cleveland orchestras, Chamber Orchestra of Europe, New York Philharmonic, La Fenice and Staatsoper Hamburg. Other guest conducting engagements include returns to the San Francisco Symphony, Los Angeles Philharmonic, Royal Stockholm Philharmonic and BBC Symphony Orchestra.
Currently Principal Guest Conductor of the Gulbenkian Orchestra, Mälkki has built up relationships with the Chicago Symphony, Philharmonia and Royal Concertgebouw orchestras. Her most recent concert with the Helsinki Philharmonic took place in December 2013 when she led their annual performance of Beethoven’s Symphony No.9.
