The Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen and Paavo Järvi tour to the US and Canada

In August, a favourite partnership with North American audiences — Paavo Järvi and The Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen – returns to the US and Canada for a tour of some of the continent’s most prestigious festivals.
Following critically acclaimed projects focusing on Schumann and Beethoven, this tour sees the partnership turn to Brahms, and the programmes feature his first two Symphonies, First Piano Concerto and Violin Concerto.
The tour opens in Canada with a return to Québec’s Festival de Lanaudière, following a number of lauded visits there in recent years. 2 August sees Lars Vogt as soloist in Brahms’ Piano Concerto No.1, while Symphony No.2 completes the programme. The following day, the programme consists of the Violin Concerto, featuring Christian Tetzlaff, and Symphony No.1.
Orchestra, conductor and Vogt then travel to the US for concerts beginning at the Ravinia Festival on 4 August — with Symphonies Nos.1 and 2 and the Academic Festival Overture. The orchestra’s debut appearance at the Tanglewood Festival follows on 6 August, when Vogt is again the soloist in Brahms’ First Piano Concerto. The programme opens with the Academic Festival Overture and ends with Symphony No.2.
The tour culminates with a performance at New York’s Mostly Mozart Festival on 7 August, with a repeat of the Tanglewood programme. The orchestra and Järvi’s last appearance at the festival in 2010 impressed the The New York Times critic, who noted: “Järvi’s incisive, unpredictable phrasing and bold contrasts made for an exciting performance… The musicians, perched on the edge of their seats, played with enormous energy and illuminated violent mood swings within a single measure.”
