Pekka Kuusisto makes his debut with the Mahler Chamber Orchestra
6/6/2014
Pekka Kuusisto makes his debut with the Mahler Chamber Orchestra, joining them as soloist/director on tour to Budapest, Berlin and Reykjavik.
The programmes juxtapose contemporary works by Steve Reich and John Adams with concertos by Bach.
At Budapest’s Liszt Academy on 10 June the orchestra and Pekka perform Reich’s Duet and Violin Phase, Adams’ Shaker Loops and Bach’s Violin Concerto in E, BWV.1042 and Brandenburg Concerto No.3.
They present the programme in a very different context in Berlin on 12 June – when they are joined by guests, including dancer Sasha Waltz and juggler Jay Gilligan, for a performance at the city’s Radialsystem venue.
The programme is performed in its more traditional guise in Reykjavik’s Harpa Hall on 15 June. Following the performance Pekka stays on in Iceland for appearances at the Reykjavik Midsummer Music Festival.
