Boston Symphony Orchestra tours to China and Japan
30/4/2014
The Boston Symphony Orchestra continues its long tradition of ground-breaking tours, returning to China for the first time since it became the first American orchestra to tour to mainland China in 1979.
Conducted by Charles Dutoit and featuring soloists Janine Jansen and Behzod Abduraimov, the tour visits China and Japan, with seven concerts in ten days.
The orchestra gives concerts in Beijing on 1 & 2 May, Shanghai on 4 May and Guangzhou on 6 May, then travels to Japan for three concerts in Tokyo.
Behzod Abduraimov is soloist in Rachmaninov’s Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini for the concerts in China, and Janine Jansen performs Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto with the orchestra in Japan. Dutoit conducts Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No.5 across the tour.
