Lorin Maazel and Concertgebouworkest tour Eastern Europe
5/11/2012
The Concertgebouworkest and Lorin Maazel begin a tour to Eastern Europe this week. Starting in Armenia’s capital, Yerevan, the orchestra’s debut in the country sees them perform at the Aram Khachaturian Concert Hall on 9 November in a concert which will also be recorded for broadcast on state television. The following day, the orchestra and Maazel travel on to Turkey to perform at Istanbul’s Halic Congress Centre on 10 November.
The varied programme across the two concerts combines a quintessentially Dutch work, van Anrooy’s De Zilvervloot, alongside Prokofiev’s Romeo and Juliet and Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 4. The tour’s Turkish performance brings to a close celebrations for the Netherlands-Turkey year, celebrating 400 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
