21/11/2011
The Sydney Symphony brought their two-week tour of Japan and Korea to a close with a final stunning concert at a sold-out Seoul Arts Center, greeted with rapturous applause. Principal Conductor and Artistic Advisor Vladimir Ashkenazy conducted the orchestra in six concerts in Japan and two in Korea, including performances in Tokyo, Nagoya, Fukuoka and Seoul. Evgeny Kissin joined Ashkenazy and the Sydney Symphony in what were his debut appearances with an orchestra in Japan, while the concerts in Korea themselves represented the orchestra’s debut in that country. Sayaka Shoji and Mischa Maisky completed the trio of tour soloists, with the full programming featuring a wide range of repertoire including works by Beethoven, Brahms, Chopin, Rachmaninov, Grieg and Shostakovich.
