Bamberger Symphoniker return to Edinburgh International Festival for three-concert residency
26/8/2011
The Bamberger Symphoniker return to the Edinburgh International Festival for a three-concert residency next week.
The orchestra begin their series with a late night concert with the young Latvian conductor, Ainars Rubikis, winner of Bamberg’s Gustav Mahler International Conducting Competition in 2010, in an arrangement for twelve musicians and soprano of Mahler’s Symphony No. 4. Jonathan Nott takes the reins for the next two concerts where they are joined by pianist Pierre-Laurent Aimard. In these performances they explore Messiaen’s Chronochromie and Sept Haïkaï, with Bartók’s The Miraculous Mandarin in its complete version rounding off the programme. The final concert consists of an all-Ravel repertoire, featuring his Valses Nobles et Sentimentales, Piano Concerto for the left hand, and the complete suite of Daphnis et Chloé.
