Budapest Festival Orchestra complete successful tour of South America
29/4/2011
The Budapest Festival Orchestra and Iván Fischer have completed their third tour of South America, this time with pianist Dejan Lazic and violinist Jósef Lendvay as soloists. The Orchestra gave five concerts between 2 – 8 May at the newly refurbished Teatro Colon, Buenos Aires, the Theatro Municipal, Rio de Janeiro and the Sala Sao Paulo with two eclectic programmes featuring works by Bartók, Paganini, Dvořák, Weber and Schumann.
Pablo Gianera from Espectáculos commented on the orchestra’s playing: “The strings are quite simply stunning but even then it’s impossible to say that this section is better than any of the others.” O Estado de Sao Paulo agreed, writing “The musicality of these Hungarians from Budapest was something rare. Each phrase was performed with a beginning, middle and end, with such fluency, with the musicians overcoming all technical barriers, and with the remarkable majesty of Maestro Fischer. It was everything that is required from a first class orchestra.” They are due to return in 2014.
