Chineke! debut to Australia
HarrisonParrott is delighted to be working with the Adelaide Festival to realise Chineke!’s debut to Australia. The tour is supported by the UK/Australia season which is a joint initiative by the British Council and the Australian Government’s Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade to strengthen and build cultural connections.
As part of the tour, a chamber ensemble from Chineke! will present two new commissions by William Barton and Deborah Cheetham. They will also engage in outreach activities with First Nations communities.
Chineke! is Europe’s first majority Black and ethnically diverse orchestra. Founded by Chi-chi Nwanoku OBE, Chineke! champions change and celebrates diversity in classical music. Alongside traditional orchestral repertoire, Chineke! enables audiences to discover work by Black and ethnically diverse composers. The Orchestra has been an Associate Orchestra at the Southbank Centre since September 2016.
