Conceived by Barrie Kosky and 1927’s Co-Artistic Directors Paul Barritt and Suzanne Andrade, Komische Oper Berlin’s take on Mozart’s The Magic Flute has been hugely successful and loved by audiences around the world. It had its world premiere at Komische Oper Berlin in November 2012 and continues to thrill audiences with its full-scale animation transporting them into an enchanted world where good faces the forces of darkness. This timeless opera follows the adventures of Prince Tamino and Papageno on their search for the Queen of the Night’s daughter, Pamina. To help them conquer the trials and tribulations faced on their quest, the duo are given magical musical instruments, including a magic flute. Over 450,000 people around the world have seen this critically and commercially acclaimed production with its “deliciously absurd blend of silent movie and cartoon” (Berliner Morgenpost).
