Based on Henrik Ibsen’s Peer Gynt, set to the music of Edvard Grieg and libretto by Karl Ove Knausgård, Waiting is a symphonic passion taking a fresh look at the legendary story through Solveig’s eyes. Created by director Calixto Bieito, author Karl Ove Knausgård, video designer Sarah Derendinger and Anders Beyer, Artistic Director of the Bergen International Festival (BIF), the production’s premiere was at the BIF in 2019 conducted by Eivind Gullberg Jensen where the Norwegian soprano Mari Eriksmoen played the key role of Solveig. Waiting is a co-production of Bergen International Festival, Tivoli Festival Copenhagen, Teatro Arriaga de Bilbao, Vilnius Festival, Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra and Iceland Symphony Orchestra.
