Queen Elisabeth Competition semi-finalists premiere Charlotte Bray’s The Sun and Her Flowers
10/5/2024
Birdsong composer Charlotte Bray’s The Sun and Her Flowers receives its world premiere from 13 – 18 May at the Queen Elisabeth Violin Competition in Brussels. The five-minute work for violin and piano was commissioned by the competition and is compulsory repertoire for all semi-finalists. Its title is taken from a poem by Rupi Kaur.
Explaining her inspiration, Charlotte says: “A childlike excitement about and response to the natural world fuels the piece: first discoveries, beautiful plants and wonderful creatures, incredible sights. It seeks to capture those innocent, emergent and happy moments; a joyous appreciation of nature and the world around us. Ultimately, the more we all care about it, the greater the drive for change.”
