Aaron Zigman’s Émigré debuts on Apple Classical
19/1/2024
Deutsche Grammophon releases an album recording of Émigré by Aaron Zigman, which debuts exclusively on Apple Classical on 24 January to coincide with the launch of the Apple Classical app in China. It will be available on all streaming platforms from 2 February, with worldwide physical release set to follow in Summer 2024. Recorded during the week of the world premiere in Shanghai in November 2023, the album features the opening night cast and lead commissioner Shanghai Symphony Orchestra, alongside Lanzhou Concert Hall Choir and New York Philharmonic Chorus conducted by Long Yu.
Featuring lyrics by Pulitzer Prize-winner Mark Campbell with additional lyrics by Brock Walsh, Émigré tells the story of two Jewish brothers who arrive in Shanghai in 1938, part of the wave of 30,000 European Jewish refugees who fled to China following Kristallnacht. Co-commissioner New York Philharmonic leads the US premiere on 29 February and 1 March in a semi-staged production at David Geffen Hall with New York Philharmonic Chorus, conducted by Long Yu.
