American soprano Ilanah Lobel-Torres is a member of the troupe at Opéra National de Paris, where she has appeared in roles such as Barbarina in Neita Jones’ new production of Le Nozze di Figaro under Louis Langrée, as the Second Niece in Deborah Warner’s production of Peter Grimes conducted by Alexander Soddy and as Javotte in Manon under the musical and creative direction of James Gaffigan and Vincent Huguet respectively. In the current season she received unanimous praise from French critics for her debut as Krista in Krzysztof Warlikowski’s production of Věc Makropulos under Susanna Mälkki, appeared as Madamigella Jouvenot in David McVicar’s mounting of Adriana Lecouvreur under Jader Bignamini, and sang Beatriz in Calixto Bieito’s new staging of The Exterminating Angel led by composer Thomas Adès, jumping into the role at less than 24 hours’ notice.
Ilanah Lobel-Torres returns to Opéra National de Paris in the 2024/25 season as Zerlina in Barrie Kosky’s new production of Les Brigands under Stefano Montanari, Papagena in Robert Carsen’s staging of Die Zauberflöte led by Oksana Lyniv, Un amante in Il Tabarro and Suor Osmina in Suor Angelica in Christof Loy’s production of Puccini’s triptych, conducted by Carlo Rizzi, and as Pousette in Manon directed by Vincent Huguet and led by Pierre Dumoussaud.
